how to set the textStyle of word 1 of the selection?

Bonjour,

In a text field (lock text set to true) I select a couple of words

Then,

put word 1 of the selection  -- returns the first selected word in the  
message box as expected

But,
set the textStyle of word 1 of the selection to "link" --(or bold etc)
does not work.
I got errors:
"can't find object" -- !!?
"can't set object property"

set the textStyle of the selection to "link"
works well, but I would like to set the textStyle of a part of the  
selection only

What am I missing?

Any help much appreciated
