Web interface for executable software

Hi all,

Recently i saw a functional web interface
for a desktop application that runs as
a server.

Previously, i have seen the VLC player
interface running in a browser,
(Still think that an external for VLC could be
an excellent alternative to Quicktime)
also WinAmp and iTunes.

How difficult could be to create such
interface for our own apps?
