Directory Walkers and barking spiders

You know what i hate, i will be proud that i made a "walker" in ten lines of script and someone will upload a one that is only a single char!  I met a guy at apple once the called "n-1" (though he did die of a brain tumor).  My code is more in line with a more geriactric meaning of "walker".

I think around these parts we call them 'Directory Walkers' and 
several here have contributed versions, some elaborate examples 
complete with scrolling fields and icons. I'm sure someone will chime 
in here once we get the nomenclature.
