Even with programs with an "autosave" function, I am in the habit of  
switching to the Finder a few times every hour, and pressing Cmd D  
(duplicate).

I do this unconsciously, and when a project is done, trash or archive  
the copies.

Can't tell you how often I've been glad about this!
