word 1 to -1 bug?

I just had an instance where use of

put word 1 to -1 of fld "transcript" into tFinalTranscript

caused the text in the field to be truncated by about 650 characters.  
And always back to the exact same spot in the text...

instead of passing all the text from the first word to the last word  
of the field, it lops off the end of the field... strange.

Anyone else ever have this experience?
