Alias on MacOS 10.3.9

Hello,
I'm trying to create an alias to a folder. On Windows 'file' works, although 
the shortcut is to a folder and the documentation says that you can only 
create a shortcut to a file not a folder. Does this apply ontly to Mac since 
nothing happens on Mac with the script below:

   put specialfolderPath("pref") & "/IVANAmp/" into framp
   put there is a folder framp --renders 'true'
   put specialfolderPath("desktop") & "/IVANAmp/" into tilmp
   create alias (tilmp) to file framp

Any suggestions?
