Try queryRegistry("HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Colors\Background"), 
maybe?

Not entirely sure of the syntax (or the choice of "Background", as 
opposed to "AppWorkSpace" or "Window"), but it should be fairly close 
to that.
