if your buttons are in groups then use
the hilitedButtonName of group tGroup.
if you 
set the the hilitedButtonName of
group tGroup to button "xyz" then
the previously hilited button dehilites
automatically!

these hilited buttons in a group are
"persistant" unlike hilited lines in a list
field that do not hold the hilite well.

you probably know all this.
