The security update at the end of December fixed this, and the security 
update released last week also has the fix in it. There was a period of 
about a month where it was broken.

Unfortunately, the security update that originally broke DNS lookup also 
broke it on OS X version 10.2.8 and they have NOT released a fix for it 
on that OS. DNS lookup is still majorly hosed on my 10.2.8 machine.
