iTunes to control Audio CDs

A while back I asked the list about shell scripts/externals that would allow me to control Audio CD playback the way mciSendString can do on Windows. No reply from the list. Also doing a web search of OSX shell scripts did not turn up anything promising.

Then it ocurred to me that iTunes might be AppleScriptable to control an Audio CD.

Any thoughts?
