I don't quite understand this.

If a writer wants to invest his warrior work ethic
and intellectual capital into a book for profit,
what has the typical RunRev user risked?

Does the prospect of the development of a commercial book
somehow suck all the oxygen out of the air for those who are
interested in developing a not-for-profit publication?
I don't see why that would be the case.

If a book is released commercially, and a RunRev user determines
that the exchange of her money for the book doesn't advance her
interests, then she doesn't have to make the exchange. If the
exchange advances her position, then she can acquire the book.
