recording sound on a mac

Hello,

I'm trying to find an easy way to record myself on my mac & in using google,
your name came up.  I want to record my voice, save the recording on my
desktop in a wav or mp3 format.  Because I then want to add it to an
exercise I'm making for my French students.  what software should I use on
my mac?  My laptaop is OS 9.2, my emac at home is OSX.
