menu item issue's

Hi all,
Can you use spaces and or /'s within the menuItems of a pulldown menu? When 
these are used, the menuItem that was selected gets chopped in half. For 
instance, using a space within the item
 "Some thing", when the item is selected it only returns "Some". 

Also, when setting the text of a pulldown using a "/" within an item, 
anything after the / does not show up in the item when the menu is pulled.
