I've actually never needed a core dump on OS X because, for GUI apps at 
least, the CrashReporter works pretty good. There are crash logs in 
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter. Including a stack trace, date time, 
system version.

Console.app can be set to automatically display the logs.

But if you really need a core file, then search at developer.apple.com 
there must be a way to get the core file.
