Long file names in Mac OS X

Has anyone found a workaround to the long file name bug in Mac OS X?

And I choose this file:
This_is_longer_than_thirty_two_chars.txt

I get this response:
This_is_longer_than_thirt#4A01D

Be careful; if you try to save a -stack- with more than 32 (?) chars in 
its name, you will run into trouble saving the stack.  Better to keep 
the names shorter until the limitation is fixed.
