Been doing that for years from mobile apps. I use the on-rev hosting and the response time is quite reasonable. I also request data from the LC server for web pages using xhttp requests in javascript. The COORs is a little tricky but once you get the headers correct it works like a charm.

Has anyone tried to have a standalone app on the client side and LC server on the server side, exchanging date via cgi requests ?
