If it was to distinguish OSX from Classic you got a lot of life out of it, as Apple didn't change the major version number for decades. :)

But I'm curious: was it just an errant condition triggering a hide, or did it trigger a deeper bug in the engine which prevents LC from rendering the content region of the window?
