The bulk of the developers bolted and formed LibreOffice from the OO codebase.  It’s alive and well--I just downloaded a new version this morning.

It isn’t that OO faded or died, but that no-one liked the new overlords when Oracle acquired Sun.  The project itself is thriving under the new name.
