Using LiveCode engine with a browser extension (Chrome/Safari/Edge/Firefox)?

Has anyone tried using the LiveCode engine as part of a browser extension?
I know Safari and Chrome have support for communicating with installed apps
(I haven't researched Firefox or Edge yet), but I'm wondering if one could
include the LiveCode engine with the browser extension and make calls to it.
