Adding Effects to widgets

HH: what is one or two examples of an "astounding visual effect" that you achieved?

I'm looking at putting these on top of photos, looking for the most elegant integration…. 

The group will automatically be an ugly rectangle/square, (which doesn't help)

    Not only for "adding" bitmap-effects to the widget, also for
    astounding visual effects by certain combinations of the widget's
    ink and the group's ink.
