Welome Jim, What happens if you forget your first test stack and start a fresh. Start LiveCode, create a New Stack. Have you got the Pointer Tool back? Can you drag buttons and fields onto your new stack now? If you can reproduce your first problem it would be worth submitting a bug report with recipe and your stack.
