We had recently a thread in the forum about auto-closing a modal dialog.
I tested for that ALL: LC 6.7.11, 7.1.4, 8.1.1, 8.1.2-rc2, 9.0.0-dp2

All had correct modal-behaviour, also "as sheet".
Mac OS 10.12.1.
