[OT] upgrading Linux to 64 bit

Although if that's the driving force behind the migration,
I'd put it off for (quite) a while. 8.0 currently runs very poorly
on linux. Even worse that 7.x, which is somewhat usable even
though extremely slow and unresponsive.
