FTP vs MYSQL for storing splash stack loading

I use Hostgator's hosted FTP server. I'm not a server guru but I'm thinking I would have to have control over the server in order to do that sort of thing. If not, can you provide any knowledge on how I can do that?
I suppose I could get my own FTP server up and running but I would like to explore a database solution if it is possible

You could possibly change the ftp port to something that is not blocked.
