Android woes

I'm way behind on mobile, since I've been working on desktop apps for 
the last 18 months. But back in the day, the black screen happened to me 
when I didn't have the full SDK downloaded. So I just bit the bullet and 
downloaded all the stuff except for packages for vendors I didn't care 
about and the example files.

Things may have changed since then.
