There is an issue in iOS where if there is less than 400MB of storage the OS won’t let you read or write files. I’m guessing that by “lots” you mean more than 400MB. But in any case, it may be worth checking your reading and writing code, to see what would happen if that failed. I don’t think Apple do anything to the app that would introduce an issue like this.
