This got mentioned in another thread, and only yesterday I started using a new utility, which is pretty neat. It shows how much RAM is being used right now, and you are able to purge memory that can be made available. It would be ideal for when you’ve been doing some heavy duty Photoshop work, and are finding that your machine is sluggish.
It’s free from the Mac App Store, thug it does have promo links in it to other apps by the same developer:

Once you have installed and opened the app you may think that it’s not appearing. It places a small icon and a few numbers (the current free RAM amount) into your menu bar. Click on that to open up its panel.
