may not help now, but in 6.5 you will be able to:
...
set the fullscreenmode of stack "xyz" to "noScale"
###"noScale" - The stack is not scaled, but is centered on the screen instead!
set the fullscreen of stack "xyz" to TRUE
...
Using the same stack as a backdrop seems like a good idea :-)
