Like you, I've never submitted anything to the App Store either, but the information was given to me by other users who have. I remember also being pointed to an article in the Apple KnowledgeBase. I cannot find the article now, but perhaps someone can point you to it. 

Perhaps if you just use the app name it will still work, like with many things Apple, but apparently it is not the way Apple wants you to do it.

If anyone has different information, please do let us know, and I'll update my little list! :)
