Program not responding

I  upgraded to LC 5.5.2 and Win 7 to pull myself into the 21st century.

 Since then  I have had the message "Programname not responding" while in
the IDE and also in some of my LC executables. Then the whole system goes to
sleep for a while, finally shakes itself off and comes back to the real
world. All this after increasing my level of frustration.

Am I the only one having this kind of problem? 

Is there some work-around I can use?
