simple (?): how to test menus after building them

I've found the Menu Builder tool, and set up a menu.  I can even preview it
from within the tool.

Is there any way to test it (Mac) short of building a standalone?

I would think this would have been in the recent academy videos, or
something easily googled, but I can't find it!
