[OT] calling non-numbered Unicode glyphs

Oh darn, that first sentence.... let me rewrite that.

I think that Fontographer will show you the UTF8 values of the glyphs. You can take those values and convert them to binary using the binaryEncode function. Convert the binary value to UTF16.
