Are iOS push notifications needed for this use case?

The one that I am looking into is Urban Airship http://urbanairship.com/pricing/ but it is not free but does cover iOS Android and Blackberry…

Basic Free is a pay per message version that I am looking into. THe API looks straight forward and might work with LC.
