Auto-updating apps, and splash screens.

#3, because I want to control what's being done on my machine. I don't 
like apps that think they know more than I do.

Ideally though, a preference to allow the user to choose whether they 
want auto-updates (#1) or manual ones. I don't think #2 accomplishes 
much for either type of user.
