Open process woes

Well, lacking the gory details, I'd guess that there are environment
variables that your terminal window has access to and that aren't
present in your "open process" command. This may just be the path
variable, as you guessed, or it may be something else. Issue a "set"
command from your terminal window and see if anything jumps out at
you.
