progress bar

Hi,

I have a stack loading and rescaling big pictures (12 megapixels or more) by setting their filename and then their size. The user can choose their resizequality, and with "best" the process is rather slow, the final size being as big as possible. My question: how to link an "honest"  progress bar to this process ? It's only one line of code: set the rect of image "X" to..., and I do not see where to check the actual progress.
