It doesn't create them in a standalone, you have to script it. What was 
probably happening to Joe's stack is that the IDE was catching the 
keyboard commands.

Joe: if you have your menu set up to show in the system menubar, 
LiveCode won't catch them and you'll need the menu scripts. It's only 
when LiveCode's menu is active that it covers for you.
