Aah, But . . .
"Uncle Charlie" (let's call him that) did not say he was going to give me
a set of colouring pencils on the basis of my having bought an less fancy
set of pencils previously. He told me that he was going to give me a set of
pencils absolutely FREE of prerequisites.
Of course when he gave the set of coloured pencils to my cousin, who
already had a set of pencils, I felt (justifiably, I believe) a bit
cheesed-off.
Had he, given me, at least, a few second-rate pencils to play around with,
as some sort of conciliatary gift, when he gave my cousin a complete set,
I probably would have been suitably mollified.
