Yep. As far as I'm aware, in ALL countries that have signed up to the  
Berne Convention copyright is automatically assigned as soon as you  
produce something. Adding a copyright symbol (and in the US  
registering the book/photo/video etc. with the copyright office) is  
just to make it easier if things come to court.
