the name resolves inconsistently to short or long name

When you say
put the name of fld x  -- the answer is always the short name

but when you refer to a fld

"if the name of fld x is "Label field" it is the long name so you must say

"if the short name of fld x is "Label field" for it to work.

I think this is a bug because it should be consistent. Should I report this
to bugzilla?
