It sounds like a proxy server issue. Richard, libURL does have support
for some different types  of authentication. Basic Authentication
comes with it. Chris here at Altuit developed an NTLM authentication
external for Windows which worked well with libURL as well.

Authentication via proxy is a very complicated issue, and for now it's
best to have an administrator provide a 'pinprick' through the
firewall for the requested ipAddress/domain.
