Procedure to install plugins / externals?

Hello,

sorry, another newbee question. Can someone point me to any documentation
for the procedure of implementing plugins or externals? Is there a standard
procedure at all, or is it customized for every plugin? E.g. I don't know
how to implement the altSQLite plugin in my stack, before the new version
with altSQLite included. The demo stack runs, but what do I have to do to
plug it into my stack?
