[OT} Flash question, new version, old players

Hi, all,

I am trying to make a quick decision about incorporating PNG and GIF images
in a project I am completing.  The newest version of Flash allows the
'loadmovie' command to bring in more than just SWF and JPG files.

The catch is... does the computer running the browser viewing a site need to
be updated to Flash Player 8 or better to see the PNG+JPG.

I have tried several sources to get to the bottom of this, but no luck.

Currently everything is setup to work with rectangular jpgs with no
transparency.  Sure would like to go beyond this, but not at the expense of
viewers who have not/will not update their player.

This is a somewhat-related topic because I have a Rev control center that
directs all the Flash activity, parameters, publishing, and uploading.
