You don't need to save up for a LEGO program as the LEGO
company provide a FREEly downloadable one:

unfortunately it is only available for Mac OS X and Windows

(which LEGO ignorantly describes as MAC and PC
respectively, forgetting you can run Linux on both types of
machines)
