Get the stacks, but how to find out which substack is open?

Hi,

I'm probably overlooking something, but I just can't seem to figure  
out how to see what stack is open. When retrieving the stacks, I get  
the main stack, but how do I know what substack is opened by the user  
in the IDE?
It's just a small plugin I'm setting up, but this little problem  
really p..... me off :-(
