There are any number of apps that read iCal files. What kind of app does
she want ?
Sunbird (Mozilla's standalone calendar program) uses iCal files to store
its own calendar, and can import./export them.

It's still "alpha" but seems reasonably reliable - I used it for a
couple of weeks before it got too irritating not being able to use arrow
keys to navigate between days, and I wrote my own (which doesn't yet
import iCal files - but it's on the to-do list)
