2.5 OS X open process

I have not received my 2.5 code yet so I will ask this question here.  Has Runtime fix open process so it works properly on OS X or is it still calling carbon API's instead of using a fork()-exec() combination?  Is read from process and wite to process stable?  Can this be trusted? I ask since I have been working on a external to do exectly this.
