The term installation really applies more to Windows systems than to
Macintosh. On Windows, there are certain registry files that need to
be adjusted or set for the files being installed. Sometimes files need
to be installed in different locations. One of my apps installs fonts
in the fonts folder, the application in the program files folder, a
desktop icon in the desktop folder, and the aliases in the start
program files folder. Because the process is more complex than just
coping an single application file to the desktop, I suppose
installation better covers the whole process.
