One way to do this - maybe there are others - is

- in the preopenstack handler set the backdrop to some color or 
background pattern

- navigate - in the preopenstack handler - to a card that has the same 
background color or pattern

- from this initial card navigate to another card with any visual effect 
you want to have.

I have implemented this in my stack "Magic Triangle" which can be found 
among the stacks of  "user contributions" at the RunRev site.
