In my experience, always apply the latest windows patches before even 
thinking. It may well be the problem has been sorted long ago. Even number 
MS patches are nearly always doggy and SP4 was pants. SP6A (really an odd 
number SP ;-)) is pretty stable. Hopefully a no-brainer fix
